CUSTOMIZED CONSULTATION PLAN CASE STUDY: CHILD FAMILY HEALTH INTERNATIONAL (CFHI)
CFHI offers ethical, Fair-Trade global health opportunities to students and academic institutions. We have partnered for three years on a range of activities toward their goal of becoming a more inclusive team that respects culture and understands power imbalances, ultimately enabling them to co-create impactful programs with their network. Their customized consultation plan includes:
Staff training and materials design to align their global team around a shared set of language, understanding, and commitments on topics such as intersectionality, anti-oppression, and accountability. Together we have asked, when micro-aggressions and other harms occur between program participants at global sites, how might CFHI center the needs of students whose identities are most frequently targeted? My co-facilitator and I design spaces where the diverse team can delve into case studies of situations that have been confusing for them to navigate, celebrate culture as a unifying force, and develop a shared commitment to an accountability process that disrupts harmful patterns.
Leadership coaching for multiple team members to support deep alignment with their goals and the organizational mission, and to hold themselves accountable to the commitments they’ve made. This includes support and tools to help tap into their intuition to guide the growth they want to see for themselves, setting and holding boundaries, interrogating their behaviors, noticing how fear shows up for them through change, and growing into a fuller version of their organizational leadership.
Fundraising partnership to ensure a steady, sustaining flow of funds to resource the changes they are committed to. This involves development and implementation of a major gifts strategy to deepen organizational thriving and mission alignment, and to prevent financial crisis if programs and revenue streams were disrupted. The financial security that can grow from this strategy offers a steady foundation upon which staff can test new approaches and build the most impactful organization possible.
